Introduction

This post is a discussion on, “Creation in Different Religions”

https://mbplee.wordpress.com/2014/10/15/creation-in-different-religions/

The article has compiled essential data on the concept of “Creation” and the way it influenced their religion and their culture and to ascertain the authenticity of such assumptions. Essential to the overall concept to this ideology was the effect of  the development of human intelligence and the accumulation of such facts available at the time of the crystallisation of such ideologies. This was dependent on the timeline of historical evidence available to those people at that time and the timeline of the discovery of such evidence. Knowledge was available to man when it became available to him unlike God who was omniscient and was knowledgeable of the past, present and the future. The writings of the Holy Texts in the various religions clearly show that they were compiled by men with the limited knowledge of men and not written with the omniscience of God.

In this brief article, we will attempt to scan the ideologies of most of the major religions of this world and to highlight some of the presumptions that has influenced the behaviour of their communities, rightly or wrongly.

(1) Taoist Views of Creation

“Pre-historic China

The Xia Dynasty (2207BC to 1766 BC) and earlier can be referred to as pre-history and there are no written records or many myths prior to that dynasty. The only evidence can be gleaned from archeological findings and to extrapolate deeper into the past. Some recorded history started with the Shang Dynasty (1765 BC to 1122 BC) with the discovery of oracle bones discovered of that period which archeologists have uncovered and authenticated the existence of that civilisation. A Chinese archeological team dated the find of those oracle bones to 2070 BC which was the beginning of the Xia Dynasty. [5]

Oracle bones were used in divination a practice that runs through the thread of Shamanism. This is a clear indication that even in the Xia Dynasty (2207 BC to 1766 BC) there was already a society sophisticated enough to be concerned with spirituality, and predictions, and spiritual forces. The question is, how many generations before the Xia Dynasty were people sophisticated enough to seek knowledge and to trust the wisdom to Shamans to meet their spiritual and practical needs? [6]

Thus it is abundantly clear that shamanism were aware of spiritualism and developed profound thoughts and philosophies about spiritualism. How sophisticated, therefore, were people of the Neolithic period (12,000 – 9000 BC) to be able to visualise in the abstract visions of spiritualism? In fact, shamanism in all probability would have been handed down from the Paleolithic period (300,000 – 10,000 BC.)  The etymology of the word Shama is uncertain, but can be related to the Tungus root “sa-” meaning, “to know” thus related to the Turbo-Mongol cultures. Other scholars claim that it comes directly from the Manchu language. [4] By comparison, the Pharoahs at the time of Abraham (1813 BC-1638 BC) worshipped physical gods, with no obvious connections to spirituality as with the Shamans.”

So it becomes clear that this early civilisation  proceeded that of Christianity by some 12,000 years or more, yet were sophisticated enough to contemplate human spirituality. They accepted that the world was always there (aways existed) and their explanation of their own existence was satisfied by legend of Pangu.

“Pan Gu

In the beginning , the heavens and earth were still one and all was chaos. The universe was like a big black egg, carrying Pan Gu inside itself. After 18 thousand years Pan Gu woke from a long sleep. He felt suffocated, so he took up a broadaxe and wielded it with all his might to crack open the egg. The light, clear part of it floated up and formed the heavens, the cold, turbid matter stayed below to form earth. Pan Gu stood in the middle, his head touching the sky, his feet planted on the earth. The heavens and the earth began to grow at a rate of ten feet per day, and Pan Gu grew along with them (the Big Bang?). After another 18 thousand years, the sky was higher, the earth thicker, and Pan Gu stood between them like a pillar 9 million li in height so that they would never join again.

When Pan Gu died, his breath became the wind and clouds, his voice the rolling thunder. One eye became the sun and on the moon. His body and limbs turned to five big mountains and his blood formed the roaring water. His veins became far-stretching roads and his muscles fertile land. The innumerable stars in the sky came from his hair and beard, and flowers and trees from his skin and the fine hairs on his body. His marrow turned to jade and pearls. His sweat flowed like the good rain and sweet dew that nurtured all things on earth. According to some versions of the Pan Gu legend, his tears flowed to make rivers and radiance of his eyes turned into thunder and lighting. When he was happy the sun shone, but when he was angry black clouds gathered in the sky. One version of the legend has it that the fleas and lice on his body became the ancestors of mankind.”

Pangu is an indisputable legend, but accepted as part of the culture of the Taoists and made into part of their legendary beliefs. Creation was thus legendary in Taoism.

(2) Hindu God of Creation: Lord Brahma

There seems to be very little historical or archaeological records of Hindu civilisation before 7000 BC despite the fact that evidence indicates that there must have been a much older history to Hindu civilisation. However:

Timeline of some Indian Evolution of their culture

Harappan period c.7000 BC-c.2000 BC

Before 2000 BC: The Indus Valley Civilisation

1500–500 BC:The Vedic Period500

Based on this it is clear that the Hindu civilisation preceded Christianity by no less than 7000 years. The concept of creation was based on legends.

“Brahma is recognized as the creator of the Universe. Brahma is regarded as the Supreme Being, the god of gods. Lord Brahma is the originator and the generator of the mankind. Brahma symbolizes the universal mind, as creation is the work of the mind and the intellect.  The daily alternation of light and dark is attributed to the activity of Brahma.

In order to create the world and produce the human race, Brahma made a goddess out of himself. One half was woman and the other half was man. Brahma called the woman Gayatri, but she also became known by many other names such as Saraswati.

Brahma sprouted five heads, so that he could watch Gayatri at all times. To restrain Brahma’s lust, Shiva wrenched off one of Brahma’s five heads. This helped Brahma come to his senses, and he took Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, as his consort. With her help, he regained control of his mind.”

The Hindu concept to creation is clearly legendary and vague, but indisputable. Even the gods are legendary gods.

Egyptian Creation Myths

“The Predynastic Period of Ancient Egypt (prior to 3100 BC) is traditionally the period between the Early Neolithic and the beginning of the Pharaonic monarchy starting with King Narmer. However, the dates of the Predynastic period were first defined before widespread archaeological excavation of Egypt had taken place, and recent finds which show the course of Predynastic development to have been very gradual have caused scholars to argue about when exactly the Predynastic period ended. Thus, the term Protodynastic Period, sometimes called Dynasty 0, has been used by scholars to name the part of the period which might be characterized as Predynastic by some and Dynastic by others.”

This shows the antiquity of the Egyptian civilisation and its possible influence on the later religions like Christianity. But we find that much of Egyptian concept of the creation of god is in the realms of legends as illustrated:

Lower Kingdom Creation Myth
Only the ocean existed at first. Then Ra (the sun) came out of an egg that appeared on the surface of the water. Ra brought forth four children, the gods Shu and Geb and the goddesses Tefnut and Nut. Shu and Tefnut became the atmosphere. They stood on Geb, who became the earth, and raised up Nut, who became the sky. Ra ruled over all. Geb and Nut later had two sons, Set and Osiris, and two daughters, Isis and Nephthys. Osiris succeeded Ra as king of the earth, helped by Isis, his sister-wife.

(Upper Kingdom creation story)
At first there was only Nun, the primal ocean of chaos that contained the beginnings of everything to come. From these waters came Ra who, by himself, gave birth to Shu and Tefnut. Shu, the god of air, and Tefnut, the goddess of moisture gave birth to Geb and Nut, the earth god and the sky goddess. And so the physical universe was created. Men were created from Ra’s tears. They proved to be ungrateful so Ra, and a council of gods, decided they should be destroyed. Re created Sekhmet to do the job. She was very efficient and slaughtered all but a few humans, when Ra relented and tricked her into stopping. Thus was the present world created.”

So again, we see an Egyptian civilisation, over 5500 years before Christianity having legendary concepts of Creation. The Egyptian civilisation was the pre-cursor to the Judeo-Christian civilisation that took many of their ideas from the earlier civilisations of the time.

Judeo-Christian Mythology on Creation

[As The Quran has largely plagiarised the Bible concerning Creation and Genealogy, including several Islamic deviations, most of their concepts follow that of the Torah and the Bible and thus the discussion on Christian creation similarly applies to that of the Quran. There will not be a separate analysis on Islam. ]

Now we come to the Judeo-Christian concepts of “Creation” which introduces the concept of a monotheist religion, and preached as events of history and of a reality. The Bible is the inspired word of God, a God who is omniscient yet the script certainly makes it clear that it was written by man who could only exhibit his own limited knowledge and foresight in his writings of the Bible, and that he was not inspired or directed by God.

(1) Genesis Chapters 1 to 3 tell us that God created the universe in 6 days and rested on the 7th. Most Jews and Christians accept that this is a literal description of the creation of the Universe.

But today, astronomical scientists tell us differently:

“Around 13.8 billion years ago, all the matter in the Universe emerged from a single, minute point, or singularity, in a violent burst. This expanded at an astonishingly high rate and temperature, doubling in size every 10-34 seconds, creating space as it rapidly inflated. Within a tiny fraction of a second, gravity and all the other forces were formed. Energy changed into particles of matter and antimatter, which largely destroyed each other. But luckily for us some matter survived. Protons and neutrons started to form within the first second; within minutes these protons and neutrons could fuse and form hydrogen and helium nuclei. After 300,000 years, nuclei could finally capture electrons to form atoms, filling the Universe with clouds of hydrogen and helium gas. After around 380,000 years it left behind a bath of photons – the Cosmic Microwave Background that Penzias and Wilson accidentally detected. Within this were tiny ripples of matter that were stretched to enormous sizes during inflation, and in turn these became the seeds for the galaxies and galactic clusters we see today.”

Both descriptions, Biblical and scientific, cannot be right. Perhaps the early scribes were not recording the inspired word of God but of man?

(2) Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

But today science has proven that creating life out of dust (or mud), abiogenesis, is impossible.

http://creationresearch.org/crsq/articles/36/36_4/abiogenesis.html

(3) The following timeline of the Old Testament has been compiled with the assumption that the human genealogies are literal and complete. If so, God created the world about 6000 years ago. All years are approximate.

Creation to Abraham
Creation: 4000 B.C. (we don’t know how long Adam and Eve lived in the Garden before their exile.)
Adam: 4000 B.C. – 3070 B.C. (Genesis 2:7; 5:5)
Methuselah: 3350 B.C. – 2350 B.C. (Genesis 5:21; 5:27)
Noah: 2950 B.C. – 2000 B.C. (Genesis 5:29;9:29)
Flood: 2350 B.C. (Genesis 6-9)

Egypt founded: 2170 B.C.
Abraham: 2165 B.C. – 1990 B.C. (Genesis 11:26; 25:8)

Yet Modern Archaeological and Anthropological Finds show quite different perspectives:

This is archaeological evidence that early man existed millions of years ago, long before the mention of Adam and Eve and thus places the Biblical accounts of “Creation” into the realms of legends. This raises the doubts of the literal and historic accounts purported to be in the Bible.
The Jewish Timeline of Creation (abbr)

(4) Authenticity of the Biblical text

Most followers if the Abrahamic faiths regard the stories in the Bible and the Quran as historical, and the literal word of God or the inspired word of God. The fact that all  Abrahamic faith believers accept that God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, does not allow the faithful to doubt his total authority over all things and that he is their creator of all things and He exists in the Heavens. As a consequence, most believers accept the Bible and the Quran as historical stories of events and characters. For thousands of years no one has challenged challenged this belief for fear of being accused a heretic and condemned to death.

However, since the time of the writing of the Bible, man has made tremendous progress in his understanding of the world around him and many of the stories in the Bible cannot stand up to scrutinity. I will highlight a few more obvious discrepancies to show these contradictions. No doubt there will be those who will find reasons to justify these differences, but it is now for the reader to decide.

(4.1) The Jewish Calander based on the genealogy of the Biblical characters establishes that Adam and Eve were created soon after the completion of the Universe, i.e., 3760 BC.

But from archaeological discoveries and anthropological studies, it is proven that the earliest human ancestor who walked on two legs existed 5.8 million years ago. This difference is too divergent to suggest anything but ignorance on the part of the writers of the Bible account, dismissing that God had a hand in influencing this script.

(4.2) Similarly the suggestion that the Universe was created in 6 days, around about 3760 BC is also far fetched when astronomical scientists have hypothesised that the world was formed in an instant some 13.8 Billion years ago. It has since been expanding and forming and is still doing so.

There was no way that the early writers of the Bible could ever have known or imagined the Universe was formed by the Big Bang or that Man existed 5.8 million years before them. It is only in recent years that cosmology and archaeology and anthropology have been able to provide us with such insights with the assistance of modern scientific inventions like the space telescope, and carbon dating techniques. But if there was an omniiscient and omnipotent God, surely he would not have put his name to the glaring errors in the Bible. The discrepancies in the Bible all point to the high probability that the Bible was the invention of man’s limited knowledge and that the probability of the existence of God is highly contentious.

(4.3) Biblical science is totally discredited for the ignorance of the understanding of biological science. The Bible states:

Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. [And in the Quran:  “…and He began the creation of man from clay.” (Q. Ch. 32. V. 7).]

But today science has proven that creating life out of dust (or mud or clay), abiogenesis, is impossible. It is scientifically impossible to create organic matter from inorganic substances. These, and several others, failings to complying with the laws of phyics and chemistry and biology in the Holy Scriptures is understandable in the light of the only limited knowledge available to the early Christian civilisation. But the fact that God did not intervene in correcting in these errors shows that He was either incapable of intervening, or there was never a God.

The above facts are very strong arguments to indicate the improbability of the existence of a God who created the Universe and Man. No one has been able to prove otherwise since the Bible was written.

The Spiritual Jesus Christ

Paul was one of the earliest disciples of Jesus Christ and preached of his revelations and thus the least corrupted in Christian doctrines.

Galatians 1: 11-12

11  For I (Paul) would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.

12  For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ (by God.)

Paul’s authority is ultimate and unlike the Gospels, it is a “revelation” and not legend or hearsay. So much more importance must be given to Paul’s ministry than it has ever received. Paul himself saw Jesus via revelation on his encounter on the road to Damascus (Acts 9, 22, 26) in which Christ(God) revealed Himself to Paul.

It is clear from the scriptures that Jesus was a priest in the Heavenly Tabernacle as shown by the following passages:

Hebrew 7:

19. For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

20. And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

21. (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

22. By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

26. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

27. Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

28. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore. High Priests Ordained to offer Gifts and Sacrifices

Hebrew Chapter 8

  1. Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
  2. A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
  3. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
  4. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:

Jesus Sacrifices His Blood in the Heavenly Tabernacle

Hebrew Chapter 9:

  • Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
  • But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
  • For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
  • How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

The Heavenly Tabernacle was “Before (earthly) time began.”

This gives us a perspective of the time-line of the Heavenly Tabernacle in relation to human history:

2 Timothy Chapter 1:

  1. Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began (before earthly time began,)
  2. But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
  3. Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

Paraphrasing

(1) Jesus was revealed to Paul by God as a High Priest in the Heavenly Tabernacle and who had shed his own blood to expunge the sins of his followers at a time “that was before earthly time.” Thus, a second sacrifice at Calvary would have been totally unnecessary.

(2) “The Heavenly Tabernacle and the (spiritual) High Priest, Jesus, were already pre-ordained by God and had already occurred long before the beginning of earthly time.” But the Gospel myths were a necessary evolution of the esoteric Christian faith as it was necessary to associate the Heavens with the Earth for the sake of the existing pagan beliefs existing at that time.

The relevation of Paul saw Jesus Christ as a spiritual Senior Priest serving in the Heavenly (Spiritual) Tabernacle in Heaven. He told of Jesus Christ’s blood sacrifice as saviour of the sinners of the world, but in the spiritual Tabernacle in Heaven. Paul clearly saw Jesus Christ is a spiritual son of God in a vision that was before earthly time. In other words, Jesus Christ pre-existed earthly time.

Paul therefore preached of a pre-existent spiritual Jesus Christ who existed in the Heavenly Tabernacle before earthly time.

Further Biblical verses that suggests the pre-existence of JesusChrist

John 6:38-40
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me; and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

The first verse suggests that Jesus came down from Heaven. This seems to contradict the belief that he first existed as a man when he was born into this world. For if Jesus was first conceived through Mary and had no pre-existance, how could he come down from Heaven. We (Man) come into existence when we are born into this world, but would it be correct to say that we came down from Heaven? If a verse said that we came down from Heaven, would you think that we pre-existed in Heaven?

John 1:15
15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ “

John the Baptist was 6 months older than Jesus Christ. So it is physically impossible for Christ to be before him. Surely this verse shows preexistence, at least before John the Baptist.

Jude 1:25
to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

&

Colossians 1:17
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

These 2 verses you just read blatantly say that he is before all things.

John 1:3
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

So there is nothing that was made that didn’t involve Jesus/The Word being there. This verse alone answers your question because the universe, angels and men were made and Jesus was present when they were created.

John 8:58
“I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

Jesus claimed to exist before Abraham. The words I am mean I exist. So Jesus existed before Abraham.

Revelation 22:16
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

Here we see that Jesus is the offspring of David, yet he is also the root of David, which at appears to show existance before King David.

Luke 10:18
He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

Compare Luke 10:18 with Revelation 12:1-10 and it appears that Satan and his angels fell to the earth before the birth of Christ as a man. Now we know that Jesus was the Word and was with God in the beginning.

Micah 5:2
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

Micah 5:2 talks about someone who will rule Israel and who’s origin is from ancient times. Who but Jesus could fit that description?

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was god.

John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[ 1:14 Or the Only Begotten] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

So Jesus was with God in the beginning. We also know from certain scriptures that Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and it is assumed that Jesus gave the Law. We are also told in Acts:7:30-39 that an Angel of the Lord appeared to Moses through whom God spoke and this is the same Angel who spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai and passed on the living words (The Law) to Moses.

30 “After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.
31 When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to look more closely, he heard the Lord’s voice:
32 ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.
33 “Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals; the place where you are standing is holy ground.
34 I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’
35 “This is the same Moses whom they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
36 He led them out of Egypt and did wonders and miraculous signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the desert.
37 “This is that Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will send you a prophet like me from your own people.’
38 He was in the assembly in the desert, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to us.
39 “But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

So is the Angel of the Lord, Christ? Well it seems possible but I cannot be sure. Perhaps the correct model to look at is the one mentioned in Revelation 1:1

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,

Here we can see that the order of the Revelation started with the Originator which is God. He then passed it to Jesus Christ who sent it to his Angel and then to John. So perhaps it is possible that the Angel mentioned is the same Angel mentioned in Acts:7:30-39. Either way it still suggests that Jesus Christ existed at the time of Moses and that is the point I wish to bring out for now..

Moving on we read the following in Hebrews 1:1-2
1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

Verse 2 is talking about the son and it says that God made the universe through him, (in the context of him being a son). The word universe in this scripture means Age.

John 17:5
And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

The above verse is clear about Christ’s pre-existence in glory before the world began. The next verse also confirms that Jesus pre-existed in Heaven.

John 3:12-15
12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?
13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven, the Son of Man.
14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.

God is Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent

God created the Universe in 6 days, and he set the Sun and the Moon and the Stars to circle the earth (sic). God is proud to announce this fact of his omnipotence:

Gen.1

[1] In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
[2] And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
[3] And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
[4] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
[5] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
[6] And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
[7] And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
[8] And God called the firmament Heaven.

Gen 2:7

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

1 Corinthians 15:45
So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit

God was proud of his creations, and acknowledges it openly in the Bible. God showed wehat he was capable of creating and even showed how compassionate he was with the incarnatuon of Jesus Christ on earth. God’s presence on earth is recorded proudly (legendarily) in the Gospels, but which as contradictory to the teachings of Paul which were based on his revelation from God. But the Gospel stories were of a historic Jesus Christ, son of God or God himself, who performed miracles on earth.

If the Gospels are true, then God identified himself on earth in the form of the incarnate Jesus Christ.

Such an event, a miracle in itself, must be one of the most significant events (in Christendom) since the creation of the Universe and would be recognised by peoples far and wide. It should be a world shaking event; God. or God incarnate, setting foot on the earth.

Yet, it is significant that not a single historian of that period ever mentions the existence or presence of a Jesus Christ although other characters of that period are mentioned. The existence or the miracles of Jesus Christ are not mentioned in the historical records of the Romans, or the Greeks or the Egyptians although it is obvious the history of these peoples long preceeds the history of Jesus Christ, and this anomaly is evident to historians and archaeologists even to this day.

That the incarnate of God, Jesus Christ, could walk the earth for 33 years, and perform so many miracles and touch so many lives, that after 2000 years of archaeological findings, there is no trace of any artifacts or archaeological traces, or human remains of any of the characters mentioned in the Bible is inexplicable. Even the historicity of Adam and Eve, Abraham, Moses, Noah, Jesus, have all never been established. They remain legends and that is what they really are.

Why then would a compassionate omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent God who so proudly and openly claimed that He created the Universe and Man, and the incarnate Jesus Christ suddenly withdraw from exposing his worldly presence by not allowing some artifact to be discovered, or in some way intervene when his chosen people were suffering genocide/extermination in the holocaust, or when the 2 atomic bombs were released in Japan or when the 2 World Wars sent millions to their deaths, and today when Islam is out to destroy all other faiths including that of his chosen peoples?

The only conclusion that can be derived at is the probability that God is not omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, or that he has retired with no successor. But in reality, the only probability we must conclude from this analysis is that God is not there to answer our prayers. There is No God. So what the priests have been preaching for 2000 years have been legends of the ancient peoples and they were not historical truths. This raises the question of the intellectual independence of theologians and religious academics in their studies of religious faiths.

The above should provide enough material for readers to ask further questions on the authenticity and historicity of the Biblical text and to question whether God ever inspired the writing of the Bible.

ludensian, all your arguments below are arguments against those scientists who have suggested that evolution is the most probably explanation to life on earth. And that you do not accept any possibility of abiogenesis. Yet you accept abiogenesis in Genesis and hence creation in the Bible. Well, I do not accept abiogenesis in Genesis because there is no evidence to support it.

But just using logic and common sense and based on archaeological and anthropological scientific evidence, there is proof and evidence of of human (or early man) evolving from 5.8 Million Years Ago, and the likely that he evolved from earlier forms is highly probable. At least a whole lot more probable than the creation of man for inorganic dust as suggested in Genesis. I quote:

“5.8 MYA (Million Years Ago)

Orrorin tugenensis, oldest human ancestor thought to have walked on two legs

3.2 MYA

Lucy, famous specimen of Australopithecus afarensis, lives near what is now Hadar, Ethiopia

1.8 – 1.5 MYA

Homo erectus is found in Asia. First true hunter-gatherer ancestor, and also first to have migrated out of Africa in large numbers. It attains a brain size of around 1000 cm3

230,000 YA

Neanderthals appear and are found across Europe, from Britain in the west to Iran in the east, until they become extinct with the advent of modern humans 28,000 years ago

195,000 YA

Our own species Homo sapiens appears on the scene – and shortly after begins to migrate across Asia and Europe. Oldest modern human remains are two skulls found in Ethiopia that date to this period. Average human brain volume is 1350 cm3

170,000 YA

Mitochondrial Eve, the direct ancestor to all living people today, may have been living in Africa

5,500 YA

Stone Age ends and Bronze Age begins. Humans begin to smelt and work copper and tin, and use them in place of stone implements

4,000 to 3,500 BC

The Sumerians of Mesopotamia develop the world’s first civilisation.

Jesus supposedly only existed some 2014 years ago and Adam and Eve were created some 5414 years ago. Even Biblical chronological dates are totally unrealistic compared to the real dates of human evolution.

Big Bang and Formation of Our Universe Timeline

The Big Bang
10-43 seconds
The universe begins with a cataclysm that generates space and time, as well as all the matter and energy the universe will ever hold. For an incomprehensibly small fraction of a second, the universe is an infinitely dense, hot fireball. The prevailing theory describes a peculiar form of energy that can suddenly push out the fabric of space. At 10-35 to 10-33 seconds a runaway process called “Inflation” causes a vast expansion of space filled with this energy. The inflationary period is stopped only when this energy is transformed into matter and energy as we know it.

The Universe Takes Shape
10-6 seconds
After inflation, one millionth of a second after the Big Bang, the universe continues to expand but not nearly so quickly. As it expands, it becomes less dense and cools. The most basic forces in nature become distinct: first gravity, then the strong force, which holds nuclei of atoms together, followed by the weak and electromagnetic forces. By the first second, the universe is made up of fundamental particles and energy: quarks, electrons, photons, neutrinos and less familiar types. These particles smash together to form protons and neutrons.

Formation of Basic Elements
3 seconds
Protons and neutrons come together to form the nuclei of simple elements: hydrogen, helium and lithium. It will take another 300,000 years for electrons to be captured into orbits around these nuclei to form stable atoms.

The Radiation Era
10,000 years
The first major era in the history of the universe is one in which most of the energy is in the form of radiation — different wavelengths of light, X rays, radio waves and ultraviolet rays. This energy is the remnant of the primordial fireball, and as the universe expands, the waves of radiation are stretched and diluted until today, they make up the faint glow of microwaves which bathe the entire universe.

Beginning the Era of Matter Domination
300,000 years
At this moment, the energy in matter and the energy in radiation are equal. But as the relentless expansion continues, the waves of light are stretched to lower and lower energy, while the matter travels onward largely unaffected. At about this time, neutral atoms are formed as electrons link up with hydrogen and helium nuclei. The microwave background radiation hails from this moment, and thus gives us a direct picture of how matter was distributed at this early time.

Birth of Stars and Galaxies
300 million years
Gravity amplifies slight irregularities in the density of the primordial gas. Even as the universe continues to expand rapidly, pockets of gas become more and more dense. Stars ignite within these pockets, and groups of stars become the earliest galaxies. This point is still perhaps 12 to 15 billion years before the present.

===============================================================

Birth of the Sun
5 Billion Years Before the Present (BP)
The sun forms within a cloud of gas in a spiral arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. A vast disk of gas and debris that swirls around this new star gives birth to planets, moons, and asteroids . Earth is the third planet out.

Earliest Life
3.8 Billion Years BP
The Earth has cooled and an atmosphere develops. Microscopic living cells, neither plants nor animals, begin to evolve and flourish in earth’s many volcanic environments.

Primitive Animals Appear
700 Million Years BP
These are mostly flatworms, jelly fish and algae. By 570 million years before the present, large numbers of creatures with hard shells suddenly appear.

The First Mammals Appear
200 Million Years BP
The first mammals evolved from a class of reptiles that evolved mammalian traits, such as a segmented jaw and a series of bones that make up the inner ear.

Dinosaurs Become Extinct
65 Million Years BP
An asteroid or comet slams into the northern part of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. This world-wide cataclysm brings to an end the long age of the dinosaurs, and allows mammals to diversify and expand their ranges.

Homo Sapiens Evolve
600,000 Years BP
Our earliest ancestors evolve in Africa from a line of creatures that descended from apes.

Supernova 1987A Explodes
170,000 Years BP
A star explodes in a dwarf galaxy known as the Large Magellanic Cloud that lies just beyond the Milky Way. The star, known in modern times as Sanduleak 69-202, is a blue supergiant 25 times more massive than the Sun. Such explosions distribute all the common elements such as Oxygen, Carbon, Nitrogen, Calcium and Iron into interstellar space where they enrich clouds of Hydrogen and Helium that are about to form new stars. They also create the heavier elements (such as gold, silver, lead, and uranium) and distribute these as well. Their remnants generate the cosmic rays which lead to mutation and evolution in living cells. These supernovae, then, are key to the evolution of the Universe and to life itself.

===============================================================

Crab Supernova Appears
1054 A.D.
A new star in the constellation Taurus outshines Venus. Chinese, Japanese, and Native American observers record the appearance of a supernova. It is not, however, recorded in Europe, most likely as a consequence of lack of study of nature during the Dark Ages. The remnants of this explosion are visible today as the Crab Nebula. Within the nebula, astronomers have found a pulsar, the ultra-dense remains of a star that blew up.

Galileo Builds the First Telescope
1609 A.D.
Five years after the appearance of the great supernova of 1604, Galileo builds his first telescope. He sees the moons of Jupiter, Saturn’s rings, the phases of Venus, and the stars in the Milky Way. He publishes the news the following year in “The Starry Messinger.”

Isaac Newton Describes Gravity
1665 A.D.
At the age of 23, young Isaac Newton realizes that gravitational force accounts for falling bodies on earth as well as the motion of the moon and the planets in orbit. This is a revolutionary step in the history of thought, as it extends the influence of earthly behavior to the realm of the heavens. One set of laws, discovered and tested on our planet, will be seen to govern the entire universe.

Albert Einstein Publishes Theory of Relativity
1905 A.D.
The first of his many seminal contributions to twentieth century science, relativity recognizes the speed of light as the absolute speed limit in the universe and, as such, unites the previously separate concepts of space and time into a unified spacetime. Eleven years later, his General Theory of Relativity replaces Newton’s model of gravity with one in which the gravitational force is interpreted as the response of bodies to distortions in spacetime which matter itself creates. Predictions of black holes and an expanding Universe are immediate consequences of this revolutionary theory which remains unchallenged today as our description of the cosmos.

Edwin Hubble Discovers that the Universe is Expanding
1929 A.D.
Edwin Hubble discovers that the universe is expanding. The astronomer Edwin Hubble uses the new 100-inch telescope on Mt. Wilson in Southern California to discover that the farther away a galaxy is, the more its light is shifted to the red. And the redder a galaxy’s light, the faster it is moving away from us. By describing this “Doppler shift,” Hubble proves that the universe is not static, but is expanding in all directions. He also discovers that galaxies are much further away than anyone had thought.

Discovery of Quasars
1960 A.D.
Allan Sandage and Thomas Matthews find sources of intense radio energy, calling them Quasi Stellar Radio Sources. Four years later, Maarten Schmidt would discover that these sources lie at the edge of the visible universe. In recent years, astronomers have realized that they are gigantic black holes at the centers of young galaxies into which matter is heated to high temperatures and glows brightly as it rushes in.

Discovery of Microwave Background Radiation
1964 A.D.
Scientists at the Bell Telephone Laboratories discovered microwave radiation that bathes the earth from all directions in space. This radiation is the afterglow of the Big Bang.

Discovery of Pulsars
1967 A.D.
A graduate student, Jocelyn Bell, and her professor, Anthony Hewish, discover intense pulsating sources of radio energy, known as pulsars. Pulsars were the first known examples of neutron stars, extremely dense objects that form in the wake of some supernovae. The crab pulsar is the remnant of the bright supernova recorded by Native Americans and cultures around the world in the year 1054 A.D.

Light from Supernova 1987A Reaches Earth
1987 A.D.
The light from this supernova reaches earth, 170,000 years after is parent star exploded. Underground sensors in the United States and Japan first detect a wave of subatomic particles known as neutrinos from the explosion. Astronomers rush to telescopes in the southern hemisphere to study the progress of the explosion and perfect models describing the violent deaths of large stars.

Hubble Space Telescope Launched
1990 A.D.
The twelve-ton telescope, equipped with a 94-inch mirror, is sent into orbit by astronauts aboard the space shuttle Discovery. Within two months, a flaw in its mirror is discovered, placing in jeopardy the largest investment ever in astronomy.

Big Bang Confirmed
1990 A.D.
Astronomers use the new Cosmic Background Explorer satellite (COBE) to take a detailed spectrum of the microwave background radiation. These studies showed that the radiation is in nearly perfect agreement with the Big Bang theory. Two years later, scientists used the same instrument to discover minute variations in the background radiation: the earliest known evidence of structure in the universe.

Hubble Space Telescope Repaired
1993 A.D.

Astronauts aboard the space shuttle Endeavor succeed in correcting Hubble’s flawed optics, ushering in a spectacular new age of astronomy from space. Hubble’s greatest legacy so far: detailed images of galaxies near the limits of the visible universe.
