What is Islam?
To be a proper Muslim one has to abide by the 5 or 6 PILLARS OF ISLAM.
A Muslim must accept that the Quran is the immutable literal word/command of Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger. Thus the only way Islam can be moderated is to moderate the Quran. This is not possible as no one has the authority to alter the world of Allah.
The preservation of the Quran
We are told in the Quran that the receivers of previous scripture have corrupted their scripture (2:75, 4:46, 5:13, 5:41). This was allowed to happen with God’s will. All corruptions serve as a test to distinguish the hypocrites from the genuine believers. In addition, God is always able to correct all corruptions through the revelation of newer scripture which bear the truth and expose the falsehood.
But since the Quran was to be the final scripture sent to man (33:40), then any corruptions which may take place in the Quran could not be exposed in future scripture. Thus it was necessary that God would preserve the Quran itself against all corruptions.
“Surely, We have revealed the ‘Zhikr’ (Quran), and surely, We will preserve it” 15:9
“No falsehood will come to it, in the present or in the future; a revelation from a Wise, Praiseworthy.” 41:42
The exact meaning of this divine preservation is not fully understood by the majority of Muslims today. To analyse the correct meaning of the Quranic preservation, it is first important to emphasise that God (Allah) promised to preserve the Quran and not the ‘mushaf’. The Quran is the pure scripture as written by God, while the mushaf is the man-made publication which we buy from the bookstores.
When we speak of the ‘mushaf’ which is available today in book stores, we find that there are two authorised versions in circulation in Muslims countries today. They are the ‘Hafz’ and ‘Warsh’ versions of the Quran.
The ‘Warsh’ mushaf is found primarily in northern African countries such as Algeria, Morocco, parts of Tunisia, West Africaand Sudan. The ‘Hafs’ mushaf is found in the Muslim world in general.
We find numerous words which are spelt differently in these two versions of the Quran. The variations found in the two mushafs, both of which are ‘authrorised’, mean that at least one of the two contains errors. The question here is:
Since we have an authorised printed mushaf which contains errors, does this mean that God failed to keep His promise to preserve the Quran?
The answer is obviously no, the errors are in the ‘mushaf’ and not in the Quran.
These errors, which can be found in an ‘authorised’ mushaf, confirm the fact that God never promised to preserve the man-made printing of the Quran and which is called the mushaf.
It follows that God will not chop off the hand of anyone who changes or adds to the Quran. Anyone with a printing shop can add or remove words from the Quran, then print and sell it.
So what does the preservation of the Quran really mean?
The Quran is preserved in the ‘lawh al-mahfooz’ (preserved tablet) with God (85:21-22) and not in the paper copy printed by humans.
But if that is the case, how good is that to us here on earth when we do not have access to the master tablet with God?
The answer is that we do. God made that possible by installing a mathematical code in the Quran which allows us to have access to the pure Quran, and which allows us to expose any corruption.
Once we have this knowledge, it would not matter if 1000 people printed 1000 different Qurans, all with errors or additions; we would always be able to detect any corruption.
And thus the Quran will always be preserved, independent of any printed mushaf.
The God given tool is the code 19 which God embedded in the Quran and which controls all features of the book. Besides providing absolute scientific proof that the Quran is the word of God, the code 19 also exposes any alterations in the Quran or additions.
The understanding of the preservation of the Quran is always tested when the issue of the 2 added verses in sura 9 is in question.
Many people state: Since God preserved the Quran, this means that no one would be able to add any verses.
They add: This means that the last 2 verses in sura 9 are from God.
Now we can see why they say what they say! What they are unaware of is that God never promised to preserve the human publication of the Quran, and it is in the human publication which we see the 2 added verses.
We now know that God provided us with a tool with which we are able to access the pure Quran, not the printed ‘mushaf, and as a result, the Quran will always be preserved (15:9).
Nothing happens without God’s authorisation.

To demonstrate the role of the code, please consider the following example:
If I made a statement in front of a number of people that you cannot leave a certain room in a house even if you tried, then I ask you to enter the room and I lock the door and have you locked in. I come back after 3 hours and everyone can see that you are still in the room. Can I then claim that my prediction was correct?
The answer is no, this is because by locking you in you never had the chance to leave the room if you wanted to.
What if I repeat this process but this time I leave the door unlocked, and I ask you to try to leave the room when I am gone?
Once again, I come back after 3 hours and find you have never left the room even though you have tried. Only then will everyone realise that my prediction was indeed correct.
It is the same with the code 19 which is the tool for the preservation of the Quran.
God installed a code in the Quran which guarantees the preservation of the book even if people try to corrupt it. God does not need to physically prevent people from altering the Quran, for if God simply chopped off the hand of anyone who alters the Quran (the same as locking the room in our example above), we would never know if the code 19 works to preserve the Quran or not.
But if God allowed those who decide to alter the Quran to do so freely, and then this alteration is exposed with the code 19, then we would certainly know that the code 19 works to protect the Quran from any corruptions.
The two added verses in Sura 9 were added to glorify the prophet after he died. God allowed this addition to happen because these two verses serve a test to distinguish the hypocrites from the genuine believers. The existence of these two verses in the ‘mushaf’ also demonstrates the effectiveness of the code 19 in preserving the Quran.
To assure us of the divine authorship, and also of the perfect preservation of the Quran, the Almighty author has rendered the Quran mathematically composed. Such mathematical composition is far beyond human capabilities. The slightest alteration of the Quran would thus be exposed. 
Moderates of Islam are really Apostates
Moderates of Islam must moderate the teachings of Allah by moderating what is contained in the Commands of Allah as found in the Quran. But according to the previous article that would be corrupting the Quran and thus that action of an apostate.
It must be made very clear that any deviation from Qur’anic/Islamic teachings is considered challenging the word of Allah and thus is blasphemy or apostasy and the penalty is death.
THE PENALTY FOR APOSTASY IN ISLAM IS DEATH
Most Muslims will tell us that there is no command in the Koran regarding the punishment for apostasy in their earthly life. One verse in the Qur’an that refutes this is:
Qur’an:4.89 “They desire that you should disbelieve (in Islam, become apostates) as they have disbelieved (infidels), so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them (apostates) friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah’s way; but if they (apostates) turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper.”However, the Qur’an is supplemented by the Hadiths and therein lies many of Mohammed’s personal views and statements on apostasy.(1) Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 260:
Ali burnt some people alive (former Muslims), Prophet had said, ‘If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.’ “
Ishaq:550: The reason that Allah’s Messenger (Prophet Mohammed) ordered Abdullah Bin Sad slain was because he had become a Muslim and used to write down Qur’anic Revelation. Then he apostatised (rejected Islam) after becoming suspicious of some verses which the prophet changed after his (Mohammed’s) suggestions.(2) Ishaq:551 The Messenger (Prophet Mohammed) ordered Miqyas’ assassination because he became a renegade by rejecting Islam.(3) Bukhari, 5-59-632 Once Muadh ( one of the six trusted scholars by Mohammed called Kutab al-Wahi) paid a visit to Abu Musa and saw a chained man. Muadh asked, “What is this?” Abu Musa said, “[He was] a Jew who embraced Islam and has now turned apostate,” Muadh said, “I will surely chop off his neck!”(4)
Bukhari Volume 9, Book 83, Number 17:
Allah’s Apostle (Prophet Mohammed) said, “The blood of a Muslim cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims.”
NO REFORMATION IN ISLAM IS POSSIBLE: Pope Benedict XVI
As matters stand in Islam, no reformation is possible since the Qur’an, the immiscible Word of Allah cannot be altered or modified. Anyone attempting to alter one single word or modify its interpretation in the Qur’an will be a blasphemer for daring to challenge the authority of Allah and will have the death warrant placed on him. This is why all those who criticise Islam as mentioned above are all “EX-MUSLIMS” or non-Muslims, because you cannot criticise, or alter the meaning of the Qur’an and still be considered a Muslim. That is the reason you cannot find a “reformer of Islam” who can remain a Muslim. Thus, Islam cannot be reformed except by Allah himself and that can only happen on the return of a prophet as the Messiah or Mahdi.
Any Muslim who attempts to moderate the Quran or the teachings of Islam will be branded a blasphemer or an apostate for altering any interpretation of Islamic doctrines. This is why no Muslim has ever openly attempted to reform Islam.
The Pope, Benedict XVI, an academic and a learned theologian has said in his beautiful calm way, in reply to a Pakistani Muslim scholar, Rashan, who was at the University of Chicago for many years, stating that,
Rashan: “Islam can enter into dialogue with modernity, but only if it radically reinterprets the Koran, and takes the specific legislation of the Koran, like cutting off you hand if you’re a thief, or being able to have four wives, or whatever, and takes the principles behind those specific pieces of legislation of the 7th century of Arabia, and now applies them, and modifies them for a new society (in) which women are now respected for their full dignity, where democracy’s important, religious freedom’s important, and so on. And if Islam does that, then it will be able to enter into real dialogue and live together with other religions and other kinds of cultures.”
“Well, there’s a fundamental problem with that (said the Pope), because, in the Islamic tradition,
Allah (God) has given his word to Mohammed, but it’s an eternal word. It’s not Mohammed’s word.It’s there for eternity the way it is. There’s no possibility of adapting it or interpreting it, whereas in Christianity, and Judaism, the dynamism’s completely different, that God has worked through his creatures. And so it is not just the word of God, it’s the word of Isaiah, not just the word of God, but the word of Mark. He’s used his human creatures, and inspired them to speak his word to the world, and therefore by establishing a church in which he gives authority to his followers to carry on the tradition and interpret it, there’s an inner logic to the Christian Bible, which permits it and requires it to be adapted and applied to new situations.”
The interviewer then asked Fessio,
“And so the Pope is a pessimist about that(Islam) changing, because it would require a radical interpretation of what the Koran is?”
“Yeah, which is, it’s impossible, because it’s against the very nature of the Koran, as it’s understood by Muslims.”
Pope Benedict XVI does not believe Islam can reform
But it is strange that the Pope must whisper when he wants to state agreement with conventional Muslim opinion that the Koranic prophecy is fixed for all time such that Islam cannot reform itself.
The author of this article, Spengler, states,
“I claim no originality whatever in this matter, for I simply follow the leading Muslim authorities, who are unanimous that Islam is in no need of reform. The Immutable character of Islamic revelation makes the subject of Koranic criticism a minefield.”  
I have not found one instance of the moderation of Islam, (except for apostates), ever recorded in history in the past 1400 years and thus I will not expect Islam to ever moderate in the next 1400 years. Anyone who believes that Islam can moderate by referring to the behaviour of some apostates of Islam are indeed truly ignorant of Islam and naive.
